Check Your Friend Zone

If you’re looking for love, make sure you’re not overlooking someone who is perfect for you. That girl who’s a great listener? That guy who is always there when you need him? Your friendzone might be full of excellent candidates for romance, but sometimes we forget they’re eligible, and probably looking too!

Here are six easy tips to let you know if your BFF might be potential BF or GF material:

1. Species check… If your best buddy is your cat or dog, good for you… But yeah, you know, don’t go there.
2. Is your best friend the gender you prefer for dating? Come on. This is just obvious.
3. What do you have in common? Figure out why you’re platonic friends. What about your friendship works? Is it something that would work well for a romantic relationship? If all you have in common is a love for pizza and beer, you might want to look further afield.
4. Have you dated them before? If so, they’re not likely to be a potential fit. If you’ve already tested those waters, you know there’s a reason you didn’t dive in.
5. What makes them a good catch? Do you find yourself telling this person that they would be a wonderful significant other… just not for you. Now imagine yourself in the picture. Would that work?
6. Don’t want to ruin the friendship? Of course not. Who wants to ruin a friendship? Jeesh! If you have something special with this person, you might not want to trade it in for something more romantic. But double-check that you’re not just saying this instead of admitting you’re not attracted to that person or think they’d make a lousy boyfriend or girlfriend. No relationship, no matter how it starts, is going to work if you’re not honest. Do an honest reassessment and see if your friend is someone you only write off BECAUSE they’re your friend.

And your friends aren’t just those people that you hang out with. That person you’ve been exchanging messages with online? Guess what? They’re your friends too, so remember to give them a chance.
